We want you for operation "Teach for Ten"

Christian Academy of the Bluegrass is looking for a few good men

Do you have ten minutes? Christian Academy of the Bluegrass is looking for a few good men from area Churches of Christ who would be willing to come and lead a ten-minute chapel devotional to our students. We are calling it Operation “Teach for Ten.”

It could be one time; it could be a monthly time slot; it could be once a week. Any amount of time you could give to “Teach for Ten” would be a blessing to the school.

The ten-minute chapel devotional is from 10:20 to 10:30 and participants would need to be at the school by 10:10 a.m., ready to give their lesson.  Preachers, elders, deacons, Bible class teachers, or any church member who would be willing to share the word of God with our students is welcome.

We are striving to create Christian leaders, and we would value the wisdom and guidance you can bring to our students' lives.

If this is something you would be willing to invest time in, we ask that you call Laura King, Personnel Committee Chair ,or Jana Scott, Administrator at,  859-285-9283. You may also contact them via email at laura.king@cabluegrass.org or jana.scott @cabluegrass.org.

Your example of leadership and the wisdom you impart is greatly needed!

CAB FACT: Did you know that Amylase is found in your saliva? It breaks down starches and marks the beginning of chemical digestion for starches.

Merry and Bright  — CAB Christmas Party

We rejoice with the Angels!

We have had two very special reasons to celebrate at Christian Academy of the Bluegrass over the last few weeks. Two of our precious students chose to give their lives to Christ and to put him on in baptism.

Please be praying for our students as they grow in wisdom and stature and as they continue to grow closer to Christ and understanding His word.

In the same way, I tell you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.
— Luke 15:10

Learning is hands-on at CAB!

Today I’m feeling blessed to work at a school where we can have an outdoor enrichment day just because it’s beautiful and you can learn anywhere. I’m blessed because I hear students talking about Heaven and God when they don’t even know I’m listening and that’s okay at our school; we encourage it. I’m especially blessed because I get to watch, first-hand, my own children develop and grow and turn into beautiful young ladies. This job is exhausting, overwhelming and stressful, but completely and totally worth it!
— Stacy Murphy, Diector

Living and Learning — A Hand's-On Christian Education

What a great beginning to the school year we are having. It is so exciting to finally see this school in action. The students are enjoying CAB so much and regularly comment on how much they prefer the academic environment at CAB. Recently, we took our first field trip to Shaker Village. We toured the grounds, learned about gardening, fed some pigs, and capped the day off with a steamboat ride down the Kentucky River. We also toured the Compassion Experience where our students walked in the shoes of a boy who grew up in an impoverished area of Africa and had to overcome great adversity. There is no better way to learn and grow than to have hands-on experiences. Your child can be a part of this too.

Open Enrollment Begins October 2016

We are opening enrollment for 12 students ages 3 - 5 for January of 2017. We will be offering full-day and half-day options. We are also preparing to enroll students for the 2017-2018 school year for all grades. We have a great program and would love for your family to be a part of it. If you are interested in enrolling your child in CAB in January or for the 2017-2018 school year, please contact the school for more information or visit our Enrollment Page.

Successful 1st Annual Golf Scramble & Silent Auction

Our first annual golf scramble was a success! Thank you to everyone who signed up to play golf, donated items for the silent auction or helped during the event. A very special thank you to Alex and Kristen Butt for helping to organize the entire event. We were blessed enough to have the weather hold out long enough for most teams to finish all 18 holes. The day capped off with a silent auction and barbecue lunch. Thanks to the efforts of the Butt family, all volunteers, sponsors and donors, CAB was able to raise over $4,000 that day. We are extremely grateful for everyone who made this possible. If you were not able to be a part of the golf scramble this year, please plan on participating next year. We hope to have double the amount of teams play next time. This will be a fun event to look forward to each year.

Sycamore Update

A warm thank you to all who have generously donated funds to help purchase the Sycamore Education School Management System. The goal was $2,000 and we have raised $1,600. It is not too late to help us reach our goal. Please send donations to 549 Parkside Drive, Lexington, KY 40505. Please note “Sycamore” in the memo line. Thanks!

Christian Academy of the Bluegrass status is 501(c)(3) pending.

Evergreens for Enrichment Fundraiser

Liven up your porch this Christmas with a fresh wreath while providing a wonderful learning opportunity for a CAB student!  Christian Academy of the Bluegrass students are raising funds through a Sherwood Forest fundraiser this October, with all proceeds going towards monthly enrichment days and other student specific expenses.

Christian Academy of the Bluegrass enrichment days occur several times a month and enable students to learn about science, history, heritage, faith, compassion and service through on-location experiences.

So far this year CAB students have been blessed to be able to see history first-hand at Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill, enjoy a steamboat ride down the Kentucky River and experience growing up in a foreign country through the immersive Compassion Experience. Students are currently looking forward to visiting the Ark Encounter in Northern Kentucky soon.

We hope you will find something lovely to grace your home this Christmas and join us in supporting a quality educational experience for our students.

Evergreens for Enrichment Fundraiser

• These are beautiful, live evergreens from Washington State.
• They will arrive the second week of November and are guaranteed to last until after Christmas.

CABSchoolWarming.jpg

We are so excited to begin our inaugural year at Christian Academy of the Bluegrass on August 31st, 2016!

Because of the hard work and generous donations of so many from both here in the Bluegrass and around the country, we will be able to open our doors for the first time next week. We are so appreciative of this humble beginning and could not have done it without the love, guidance and support of so many. We pray God's blessings on this endeavor, on those of you who have made this dream a reality, on the staff who will guide precious minds and most of all on the children we will have the privilege to teach.

We want to welcome our donors, local church members and those in the community to come by this Saturday from 3-5 p.m. for our School Warming. We will be serving light refreshments and offering tours of the school. We would love to show you around and answer any questions you might have about the school and our goals.

We can't wait to shake your hand and share our joy with you!

Whistle While You Work Day — August 13th

WORK DAY

WHEN: August 13, 2016 — 9am - 5pm
WHERE: 549 Parkside Drive, Lexington, KY

The inaugural school year for the Christian Academy of the Bluegrass is right around the corner and so much has taken place over the past month in preparation. The parking lot has been re-surfaced, the flower beds have been weeded, bushes have been trimmed, flowers have been planted (thanks to the generosity of Stephen Hillenmeyer Landscaping). We have also been moving in and setting up furniture and supplies for the start of the school year and will continue with that process over the next two weeks! Take a look at how far we've come in just a short time by browsing the photos below.

Tremendous strides have been made, but there are still many tasks that need to take place within the next few weeks. We are hoping you will be able to come out and lend us a hand this coming Saturday, August 13th from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

There will be small task to larger ones, so whether you can come by for 15 minutes or for the whole day, we have a task that you can help with. We hope you will be able to join us this Saturday. We are so grateful for all the donations, generosity and help we have received this year. God is good!

Moving Forward!

What a busy month it has been! July has been full of progress and excitement. In mid-July we had a work day at the school building. I want to thank those of you who took the time to come and help us prepare for the school year. Volunteers included Terry Carter, Fonda Carter, Leanna Coats, Rikki Farmer, Kendra Farmer, Robin Spicer, Michelle Glenn, David Gardner, Ken Sturdivant, Paul Wade, Rhonda Juett, Brian Egerton and some of our future students: Makenzie Murphy, Kaci Carter, Olivia Murphy, Alexa Carter, and Jackson Carter.

While we were able to make a lot of progress, we still have much work to do. There is more cleaning, repairs to the building, some wiring issues, and outdoor work still to be completed. Please let me know if you are able to assist with any these needs. We can arrange to let you in the building. Rhonda, Terry and I will be around the building at different times and would be happy to have extra help in completing these tasks.

We will also be having another workday on Saturday, August 13th starting at 9 a.m., so please stop by if you have any time that day to help out. Even if you only have 15-30 minutes, there are small tasks we can assign you. Every task completed gets us one step closer to opening the doors for school at the end of August. Of course we won't turn down anyone who can stay the whole day!

Watching the classrooms take shape and being able to actually see the space we will be using is so exciting. We still have room for more students to enroll. There are so many benefits to joining our school. Currently, I am working with an admissions officer at Freed Hardeman to enroll us in a program that will provide our graduates with an opportunity for a scholarship. Our class sizes will be small, students will receive individualized attention, and we are going to have monthly enrichment days for hands-on learning. I know we can be a benefit to your child’s academic and spiritual growth. Please consider entrusting us with your children. I promise you will not regret the decision.

Please continue to share our information with anyone you know with school-aged children. We will have a table with enrollment and donor information at the Cane Ridge Lectureship hosted by the North Lexington Church of Christ this week.

If you would like to help the school in a monetary way we will humbly and gratefully accept that as well. A lot of work goes into opening a school and many unforeseen expenses. We are in the process of attaining some corporate sponsors. If you work for a business that might have an interest in sponsoring the school please let us know. If you have already committed money elsewhere for this year, please consider us for your next year donations. I can assure each of you we will be good stewards of the money. We do not take the generosity of our donors lightly.

We have scheduled a School Warming for August 27, 2106 for anyone who would like to see the school. Our goal is to have the building set up for any donor, interested party, or curious minds to be able to come and tour the building and see what you have helped us create. Please make plans to attend this event. It will be held from 3:00-5:00 p.m. I hope to see you there!

— Stacy
